Microblading: how it works, healing, and how long it lasts

By the team at The Nail Story, Bawadiya Kalan, Bhopal · Updated

Microblading gives you fuller, shaped brows that you don’t have to draw on every morning. Because it puts pigment into your skin, it deserves a little more thought than a manicure. Here’s what to expect, from mapping to healed brows, with our price.

The short answer: microblading at The Nail Story costs ₹8,000 per sitting. Your brows are mapped to your face, then fine, hair-like strokes of pigment are drawn into the upper layer of skin with a hand tool. It’s semi-permanent: results commonly last around 18 to 30 months, fading faster on oily skin. Healing takes about four to six weeks.

What is microblading?

Microblading is a semi-permanent brow treatment. Using a hand-held tool with a row of very fine needles, your artist draws individual strokes that look like brow hairs, depositing pigment just under the surface of the skin. Unlike a traditional tattoo, the pigment sits shallower, which is why it fades over time.

It suits people with thin, sparse or uneven brows, gaps from over-plucking, or anyone tired of filling their brows in every day. Microblading at our studio is done by C. Lalrinchhani, our lashes and microblading expert.

How the appointment works

  1. Suitability check. Your artist asks about your skin, health and any medicines to make sure microblading is right for you.
  2. Brow mapping. Your brows are measured and drawn on to suit your face, so they’re balanced before any pigment is used. You approve the shape first.
  3. Colour match. A pigment is chosen for your skin tone and hair colour.
  4. Strokes. Fine hair strokes are drawn in, following the map.
  5. Aftercare. Your artist explains how to look after your brows while they heal and when to come back for a touch-up.

The healing timeline

Healing is the part that surprises people, so it helps to know what’s normal.

When What you’ll see
Days 1 to 3 Brows look darker, sharper and bolder than the final result. They may feel tender.
Days 4 to 14 Light flaking and itching as the skin heals. Strokes may look patchy or seem to disappear. Don’t pick.
Weeks 3 to 4 Colour starts to come back as the skin settles.
Weeks 4 to 6 Healed. This is the true colour and the point to judge the result and plan a touch-up.

How long does microblading last?

Microblading is semi-permanent. Published guidance commonly puts results at around 18 to 30 months, and dry skin usually holds pigment longer than oily skin. (Healthline) Sun exposure, exfoliating skincare and your skin’s own renewal all fade the strokes over time.

Most people plan touch-ups: a follow-up after the first healing to perfect the strokes, and refreshers as the colour fades. Ask the studio about touch-ups when you book.

Aftercare

While your brows heal:

  • Keep them clean and dry, and follow your artist’s instructions exactly.
  • Don’t pick, scratch or peel the flakes.
  • Avoid makeup on the brows, swimming, saunas, heavy sweating and direct sun.
  • Don’t use exfoliating products, retinol or acids on the brow area.

Once healed:

  • Use sunscreen on your brows. Sun fades pigment faster.
  • Keep strong exfoliating skincare away from the brows.

Who should wait

Microblading isn’t right for everyone, or not right now. It’s usually best to wait or check with a doctor first if you:

  • are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • have eczema, psoriasis, active acne, broken skin or a skin infection on or near the brows
  • have had a chemical peel, laser or similar treatment on the area recently
  • take medicines that affect bleeding or healing
  • have a condition that affects healing, or a tendency to keloid scars

Like any procedure that breaks the skin, microblading carries some risk of infection or an allergic reaction to the pigment, which is why hygiene and a proper suitability check matter. The US Food and Drug Administration notes these risks for tattoos and permanent makeup. (FDA)
